In any case, Sein does not seem to require sustenance/food to survive, and acts more like a catalyst for the other spirits. It can probably be assumed that it is just coincidence. Sein seems to have been thrown clear in the ensuing battle with Kuro, but it is not clear how she/it survived. Ori seems to be able to continue to survive through the absorption of the remaining light from other spirits (as well as inheriting their abilities). It's important to note that Ori actually does perish (presumably from starvation and "lack of hope", which is also a recurring theme) in the prologue to the game, and is only brought back from death by the spirit tree, using the last of its energy. I think that Kuro's attack killed many of the remaining spirits, and others died off from starvation, etc. The spirit tree provides balance to the forest via the 3 elemental sources, along with its own power (which Kuro rips from the tree). I believe the narrator is the spirit tree, yes. I'm sure there's more to it that that, but that's a quick way to explain it. However, she is killed by the restoration of the light to the spirit tree in the end, so it is likely to simply be a proximity thing. It is not clear whether Kuro was simply out of range or was resistant to the effects. There seems to be some aspect of proximity/intensity as well, because the younger owlets were killed by the light when Kuro was away. Similarly, Kuro is blinded by hate after losing her children, and sees the light of the spirit tree (and spirits such as Ori) only as something to be destroyed.Īs to how the owlets were killed, I think the implication is that because owls are nocturnal creatures, they are harmed by the "pure"/spirit light from the tree. In this sense, the forest was blind to the effects of its own power, and may have been acting selfishly when calling out to Ori. It's important to realize that by the end of the journey it is made clear that the forest has not been an entirely benevolent force Kuro's children were killed by the light of the forest. The concept of "blindness" in my mind has multiple meanings. What about the light could harm them in such a manner? And if it really is that harmful, why didn't Kuro die? What confuses me the most though, is why Kuro's kids died from the light. is Ori male or female ? o.O I always saw it as a male, but now I hear people referring to it as a female. So I have zero hate for this game, all the following questions are asked with a huge amount of love.Ġ) Did the forest die, or go blind? Or was it only that one tree?ġ) Why did the forest die/rot/go blind? Was it because Kuro ripped out Sein?Ģ) What is the role of the tree which narrates the story in the forest? Is it like the "head" of the trees, the leader tree, the sustainer of life in the world of Nibel?ģ) Why did Kuro's children die from the light of the tree?Ĥ) Why is Ori and Sein the only two survivors after Kuro's attack? Did she slaughter the rest of the creatures, or did they die out of hunger when food stopped growing? (And again why did the food stopped growing? And if there is no more food, then how can Ori survive?)Īnd lastly. I am at the entrance of Mount Huro now, after finding every secret and gathering all the collectables, and I don't want to end the game without knowing the story too.įirst let me say, this game is amazing: it brings me back to childhood when games was actually challenging and you could feel the love that the developers had put into it, because they were passionate about what they were making, not because they wanted to make money. I have not actually finished the game myself, but because of the major spoilers I'm about to spit, I figured it would be best to simply direct these questions at people who already finished the game.
